Why become a mentor?

For years, Sub-Saharan Africa has experienced a brain drain talented people leaving to study and work abroad. But now, something is shifting.

More and more young professionals want to come back. They want to contribute, build, and thrive on the continent. And what they need is not just advice they need guidance from people already on the ground.

Many of us are already mentoring informally friends, cousins, former classmates ..

Passerelle Africa gives you a way to do it with more impact, and to help those who may not be in your direct network but who need your perspective.

Who can became mentor?

You don’t need to have studied abroad to be a mentor. You don’t need to be a CEO either. You just need to be a professional based in Africa, who is willing to share what you’ve learned.

We’re looking for people who:

  • Work in Sub-Saharan Africa

  • Can commit to 1 hour per month per mentee (for 3 months)

  • Understand local professional realities

  • Are ready to guide others without doing the work for them

Mentor Match

You can mentor 1 to 5 mentees, depending on your availability.

Mentor Onboarding

We’ll make the match and provide light onboarding support.

What you'll do

  • Meet your mentee (virtually) once or twice a month

  • Help them reflect, focus, and act

  • Share honest insights about the local context

  • Be part of a broader community that believes in return and contribution

This is not about finding jobs for people.

It’s about helping someone build clarity and direction just as someone may have once done for you.
